summer

spring in the bottoms

As a country doctor my Grandfather wasn't always paid in cash.  Often he would get animals.  So, he decided to invest in a ranch to have a place for all of this payment.  He purchased some land down in the "Paris Bottoms" just west of Paris.  This old building still standing was his.  The Bear River Canal flows near this property and the views of Paris from here remind me of Europe.  As kids we would take a drive down this way to the Bird Refuge.  I always appreciated God's beauty on these trips and so take my own children in the hopes that they will do the same.

Tornado Warning

When we moved to Missouri, the one thing that kept the kids a just little apprehensive was the chance of a Tornado.  They understood all about Tornado Alley and Missouri's place in it.  Since our move to the midwest, we had just experienced severe Tornado Alley kind of thunderstorms but no tornado warnings.  That is until April.  The skies gathered a Tornado Alley kind of darkness which prompted the kids and me to turn on the news and we had ourselves an honest to goodness Tornado Warning! Never fear folks, we were prepared for just this kind of thing.  Out came the mattress and our 72 hour kits.

We camped out here in the hall or out here on the couch with our trusty headlamps depending on what the weatherman was telling us.  At one time the Tornado was headed straight at us!

But it ended up touching down just north.  Whew!  That sure was exciting!

school

We were so blessed to homeschool while living in Missouri.  It was one of the most rewarding the beautiful experiences.  The kids and I sorely miss it.  In fact, they ask me every week if we can do it again.
We usually end up discussing how experiencing public school here in Vegas has been important too for our growth.  New experiences always do that.  At their elementary school they are learning about other people, competition, the power of kindness, friendship, diversity, homework, independence and so much more.

But, we sure miss doing these kinds of things.
